Omicron: surge in cases in Madrid, they are 60%

(ANSA) – MADRID, 17 DEC – The prevalence percentage of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in positive cases of Covid sequenced in Madrid is already equal to or higher than 60%: the councilor for health of the region of the Spanish capital, Enrique, reported Ruiz Escudero, according to statements taken by the Iberian media.

The cumulative incidence of new infections over 14 days rose by almost 100 points in 24 hours, reaching 481 per 100,000 inhabitants, added Escudero. The one registered yesterday was 391.

The prevalence of Omicron is also growing in other areas of Spain: in Barcelona for example, it already accounts for about 25-30% of reported cases, reports the newspaper La Vanguardia.
