During the emergency meeting of the Security Council, UN Secretary-General stated that people in the region ‘cannot support another cycle of destruction’
UN Secretary-General, António Guterreswarned on Sunday (22) to the risk of a new cycle of destruction and retaliation in the Middle East after the US attacks against the Iran. According to him, the offensive represents a “dangerous turn” in the region. “I condemn any military climbing in the Middle East. People in the region cannot withstand another cycle of destruction. And yet we now risk falling into a retaliation circle after retaliation,” Guterres said during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
The director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA), Rafael Grossi, also expressed concern about the risk of expanding the conflict and requested “maximum moderation”. For him, there is still a “window of opportunity to resume dialogue and diplomacy.” Otherwise, he warned, “violence can reach unthinkable levels and the global regime of nuclear non -proliferation risks collapsing.”

Grossi stated that bombing caused visible damage to Fordow facilities, the main 60% uranium enrichment center in Iran, indicating the use of piercing ammunition for the US. However, according to him, it is not yet possible to evaluate the extent of underground damage. “Armed attacks against nuclear facilities should never occur,” he said, highlighting the risks of radioactive contamination.
