Admission occurs after the accident with 26 -year -old Brazilian Marins, who died after falling from a trail at the scene. “We recognize that the number of certified vertical rescue professionals is still insufficient and that our team still lacks equipment necessary for these missions,” said the governor in an open letter to Brazil published on Saturday (28) on their social networks. “We also recognize that the security infrastructure through the trails of Monte Rinjani needs to be improved, as the mountain has gone from a trail destination to an international tourism attraction,” he adds.

He also says that despite the “extraordinary” efforts of the local rescue team, Juliana’s rescue operations were challenged by nature forces. “Intense fog and persistent rainfall have harmed rescue efforts from day one, making it difficult even to make heat -sensor drones detect accurate coordinates. In addition, sandy terrain has created extreme risk for both helicopters,” he explains. The Indonesian governor also comments that much of the team that participated in the rescue is volunteers who risked their lives to try to save the Brazilian.

“I guarantee that from the first moment we were informed of the accident, our rescue team acted urgently and dedicated. They put their own security at risk to fulfill this mission. Many of them were volunteers, driven only by compassion and humanity,” he says. Iqbal has pledged to increase the preparation for future emergencies and disasters in the volcano region, including the search for partnerships with global mountain experts and vertical rescue operations.
