The European Commission fired the translator on suspicion of espionage in favor of Moscow. She was caught that she made notes at a closed meeting with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelenski in the European Commission. According to the Code of conduct, it is strictly forbidden to make written notes during meetings discussing issues of defense and security.
This was reported by Le Mond. The publication notes that the incident occurred at the end of 2024 during a meeting of the European Council in Brussels with the presence of Zelensky.
The European Commission noted that they took measures in connection with the incident. An internal investigation was conducted, the results of which were transferred to the Belgian authorities to determine whether the actions of the spy suspected Russian operation were predictable.
The meeting on December 19, 2024 was held behind closed doors, she had only heads of state, and translators were strictly forbidden to make any records.
Nevertheless, Czech translators noticed that in the next cabin their colleague, who was responsible for the Ukrainian translation, deciphered the content of negotiations. They immediately reported a security service that burst into the cabin and interrupted the translator. She was captured by all equipment and was forced to leave the room.
On the same day, an investigation was launched, the translator’s accreditation canceled and forbade entrance to the building of the European Commission.
The publication does not indicate the full name of the translator, calls it “Mrs. I.” It is noted that she continuously worked for about 20 years, a freelance translator in NATO, the European Commission, as well as in the Ministry of Defense and Foreign Affairs of France.
The publication also said that the Embassy of Ukraine in France and Brussels was denied this woman for several years to take part on the visit of the President of Ukraine.
