The Government of Finland announced the withdrawal of the United Nations (UN) of the cancellation from the Ottavsky Convention, which prohibits the production and use of anti -linen mines. This will enter into force six months after the message – in January 2026.
Next year, the country plans to begin internal production of anti -deck mines. It is reported by Reuters.
The Convention of Ottawa was signed in 1997 to completely eliminate anti -deck mines through an international ban on their use, which should reduce the level of victims among civilians. The countries that signed the document undertook not to use, not to produce and not transfer these mines.
Nevertheless, the exit from the Ottavsky Convention was approved by five European countries – Finland, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, which explains it with the need to strengthen his protection from the strengthening of the military threat from Russia.
In June 2025, it was stated that the military command of these states worked on which areas of their territories can be replaced with the help of this weapon if Russia decides to abandon its troops against NATO countries.
Recently, Lithuania and Finland announced plans to start the production of anti -personal mines from a military threat from Russia -for their own needs and Ukraine. Poland, Latvia and Estonia did not declare such plans, but made it clear that they could quickly begin domestic production in the future.
In addition, on June 29, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a resolution that has made a decision of the National Security and Defense Council from the country from the Ottavsky Convention, which prohibits the use, accumulation and production of anti -andanswell mines.
According to OBOZ.UA, the executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation Dmitry Chmailo noted that the dismissal of Ukraine from the Ottav Conference raised the latest ban on the battlefield and allows you to restore the production of anti -private mines. This type of weapon is quite effective, since Russian invaders in insulting actions mainly attract infantry without the use of equipment.
