(ANSA) – GIOIA TAURO, 07 MAY – “No to the doubling of the Gioia Tauro incinerator”. This was confirmed by the mayors of the Plain together with many local associations who promoted a demonstration this morning in Gioia Tauro.
Hundreds of people took part in the initiative to affirm that the plain cannot be the only “terminal” of the waste disposal cycle in Calabria.
“A choice that we reject – said Aldo Alessio mayor of Gioia Tauro – born without any comparison and unilateral choice by the president of the Occhiuto Region”. In the square the committees for the defense of health that ask for health services instead of polluting plants. “They had tried other times to double the waste incinerator – the associations said – and we defeated them. We will do it again. We are only at the beginning of a struggle that will continue over time”.
Next Tuesday Occhiuto will meet the mayors and representatives of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria who oppose the doubling of the plant. (HANDLE).
