Former mayor of Nuorese kidnapped and beaten to death

(ANSA) – NUORO, 15 JUN – There were moments of terror those experienced yesterday in Silanus (Nuoro) by the former mayor Luigi Morittu, a 67-year-old surveyor, beaten to blood in his company in Sa Tanca Noa, a few kilometers from the town , by two hooded men, who then escaped aboard his Audi SUV.

The man – as reported by the Sardinian newspapers – was forced to resort to the care of the doctors of the Emergency Department of the San Francesco di Nuoro hospital for the many bruises reported throughout his body, then in the evening he was discharged with a few days of prognosis .

As confirmed today to ANSA, the carabinieri of the Macomer Company and the Silanus Station are investigating, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor of Oristano, Armando Mammone. Morittu yesterday morning had gone to his company to look after the horses, as he did every morning before going to the studio. When he arrived at the place he was faced with two hooded men, one of them armed with a pistol. The attack took place when he got out of the car: the criminals started to beat him savagely with kicks and punches until they hit him in the face with the butt of the gun.

Finally, they tied him with his hands behind his back to the gate of the company using electric wires and sprinkled him with petrol with the threat of setting him on fire.

The former mayor, in shock, managed to free himself and walked to a sheepfold to ask for help while the criminals had already escaped with his Audi Q5 that they abandoned in the Bolotana countryside. Hence the alarm and the arrival of the carabinieri.

The motive for the attack, for now, remains a mystery. Morittu, mayor for two successive councils from 2006 to 2016, is well-liked and appreciated in Silanus also for his work in an important studio in the town.

He had never had a threat in the past. The carabinieri investigate at 360 degrees by hearing the breeders and farmers close to the Sa Tanca Noa company. Useful elements may arrive from Morittu himself in the next few hours when he will be heard by the military. (HANDLE).
