Losses for SPD and Greens in the Politbarometer: Three quarters of Germans see the traffic light ratio as bad

The Germans have a clear opinion on the traffic light: almost three quarters of Germans perceive the relationship between the SPD, Greens and FDP in the coalition as bad in a survey. As can be seen from the current political barometer from ZDF and the Tagesspiegel on Friday, 73 percent of those surveyed speak of a bad coalition climate.

At the end of January it was still 59 percent. The majority of supporters of all three governing parties agree with this opinion.

According to the Politbarometer, after the protracted coalition committee at the beginning of the week and criticism of the government’s decisions, 40 percent of those surveyed blame all parties for projects that were difficult to make progress. The FDP account for 29 percent as primarily responsible, 19 percent see the Greens in this role. Only four percent blame the SPD alone.

There is a clear difference between the Greens supporters and the supporters of the other parties when evaluating the decisions of the coalition committee: Overall, only 39 percent are in favor of stricter requirements for new heating systems, 57 percent reject this. Only the Greens supporters are in favor with a majority of 81 percent. 63 percent of all respondents support the acceleration of planning for the motorway expansion, only 27 percent reject this.

The Social Democrats and the Greens lost the most in the Sunday question: If there were a federal election next Sunday, the SPD would get 19 percent, two percentage points less than in the last political barometer of March 17. The Greens also lost two percentage points (17 percent).

The FDP, on the other hand, could improve by two points to seven percent. The CDU/CSU would get 30 percent and the AfD 15 percent, both with one point more. The left would remain unchanged at five percent. A government majority would only exist for an alliance of Union with the SPD or Union with the Greens.

A narrow majority of 52 percent were still satisfied with the work of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). Two weeks ago, however, this was still 63 percent.

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) continued to lead the ranking of politicians. On a scale of plus five to minus five, he scored an average of 1.5 (previously 1.9).

Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) followed at a great distance, deteriorating significantly to just 0.4 (1.0). Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) came third with 0.2 (previously 0.7). Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) followed with 0.2 (previously 0.6) ahead of FDP leader Christian Lindner with 0.1 (previously minus 0.1).

For the Politbarometer, the Mannheim research group elections surveyed 1,379 randomly selected voters by telephone between March 28 and 30, 2023. (lem)
