Football: Figc; scudetto women, from next year the playoffs

(ANSA) – ROME, FEBRUARY 16 – The FIGC Council has approved the new format of the women’s Serie A: from 2022/23, the season in which the transition to professionalism will take place, the top league will be structured in 10 teams and will take place in two stages. In the first phase, the participating teams will face each other in home and away matches, for a total of 18 days. Subsequently, in the second phase, the top 5 of the ranking will gain access to a championship title, with the title of Italian Champion and access to the Women’s Uefa Champions League. The last 5 will face each other, instead, in a relegation poule, the last goes directly to Serie B and the penultimate will be engaged in a play out match against the second in the cadet championship standings. The 5 teams of each poule compete in an Italian group with 4 first legs and 4 second legs over 10 days (2 rest sessions each). In this second phase, the companies will restart with the points obtained in the first phase. In total, the days went from 22 to 28, with an increase in the technical level of the competition. At the same time, the formula of the Super Cup in a single race is restored in place of the Final Four.
