(ANSA) – LONDON, 19 JUL – The United Kingdom is facing the hottest day ever recorded, with temperatures expected to reach 42 degrees. Yesterday in Suffolk it reached a high of 38.1 degrees, close to the British record of 38.7 set in 2019. But the heat wave has grown in intensity in the last few hours.
The Met Office has issued a red alert covering much of central, north and south-east England, including major cities like London and Manchester.
The British try to escape the heat wave by cooling off in the sea, rivers and lakes and this has caused an increase in fatalities for bathers, as the BBC website points out.
For today, travel by train has been strongly discouraged and there are inconveniences and cancellations in the national railway network, especially in areas with higher temperatures. (HANDLE).
