Rushdie: Rowling threatened on Twitter, ‘you’re next’

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 14 – “Do not worry, you are next”: is the message sent via Twitter to the writer JK Rowling, who after the attack against Salman Rushdie in the State of New York had expressed her opinion on the social platform solidarity with the writer. The terrible reply came from the user Meer Asif Aziz, of Pakistani origin and who describes himself as a ‘student and activist’.

The author of the Harry Potter saga joked at Twitter’s guidelines against hate speech after the platform did not delete the user’s comment, already reported previously for its extremist positions. The threat triggered numerous condemnatory reactions coupled with invitations to prosecute the perpetrator.

In the discussion generated by the case, some users pointed out that the profile no longer exists. It is not clear if the platform finally intervened or if the man first deleted his account for fear of retaliation, as some users claim. (HANDLE).
